Hotline Report Summary
This report aims to document and
present the extent of the suffering and challenges faced by the Palestinian
people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, since the start of the aggression
following the events of October 7th. The information is based on what has been
documented and observed through the hotline and statements made by those who
reached out, while maintaining professional standards and respecting the
privacy of each beneficiary. The report covers the period from July 29, 2024,
to September 18, 2024, during which 329 cases were handled: 319 adult
beneficiaries, including 160 women and 159 men, along with 10 children, from
areas in Gaza such as Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.
War leaves deep scars on
individuals, and the residents of Gaza have been deeply affected by the
shocking events since the beginning of the attacks. Entire families have been
lost, and women suffer from a lack of basic needs and privacy. The exposure to traumatic
events and witnessing difficult scenes have caused various psychological
issues, particularly among those with pre-existing mental health conditions who
have now lost access to treatment due to current circumstances. These issues
include stuttering, bedwetting, suicidal thoughts, self-harm attempts,
nightmares, fear of loud noises like planes, aggression, depression, lack of
focus, insomnia, social isolation, constant crying, forgetfulness, exhaustion,
irritability, and avoidance of places associated with traumatic events or
public spaces.
Health issues have also worsened,
with the spread of diseases such as skin conditions, rashes, scabies, and hair
infections, due to the lack of clean water and hygiene products like soap and
shampoo. People are also dealing with injuries, hepatitis, chronic diseases,
and malnutrition, especially among infants due to the lack of milk and proper
nutrition.
In conclusion, this report offers a
concise overview of the current situation in Gaza, highlighting the critical
importance of psychological support services provided through hotlines and
other organizations. These services play a vital role in preventing the further
deterioration of mental health, offering individuals a safe space to express
their thoughts, feelings, and fears without being judged.
