TRC Conducts Workshop in Silwan: Mental Health and Positive Parenting

2/11/2025 12:00:00 AM
  • On Tuesday 11/2/2025, Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture held an educational workshop under the title of “Mental Health and Positive Parenting” in Silwan at the Silwan Sports Club. The workshop began with the attendance of a diverse group of mothers and grandmothers, aiming to equip them with modern techniques for dealing with children and fostering a supportive environment. The session began with the storytelling of "The Rabbit Listens," which highlights the impact of active listening and emotional support on children, helping them find solutions to their problems and unleash their creativity. Following this, a listening exercise was conducted, where each participant listened attentively to the person beside her for two minutes before switching roles. The exercise emphasized the importance of refraining from interruptions or judgments while using supportive body language. This allowed participants to personally experience the power of active listening and empathy, encouraging them to apply these skills within their families and with children. The workshop also included an educational scenarios competition, where real-life parenting situations were presented. Mothers and grandmothers shared both traditional and modern approaches to handling these challenges, fostering an exchange of experiences, and enhancing engagement. The discussion reinforced key principles of positive parenting, such as setting long-term goals, providing structure and affection, understanding children's needs, and problem-solving strategies. Interactive dialogue, group activities, storytelling, competitions, and brainstorming techniques were utilized, focusing on essential parenting concepts like active listening, empathy, setting boundaries positively, and using encouragement instead of punishment. The workshop concluded with gratitude extended to all the mothers and grandmothers for their participation and engagement. Special thanks to Alaa Abbasi for coordinating this event, and Silwan Sports Club for hosting this event.
