On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, a training session was held at the Jenin Rehabilitation and Correctional Center/Birghish Prison in collaboration between TRC and the Administration of Rehabilitation and Correctional Centres. This training was directed at a number of new police officers with the aim of enhancing their understanding and knowledge of the concept of mental health for inmates, as well as the available mechanisms of diagnosis and protection.

The training covered various topics related to mental health, including identifying the psychological needs of inmates and providing them with appropriate support. The available psychological diagnostic methods were discussed to determine their needs and identify the challenges they may face. The participants also exchanged experiences and knowledge with the aim of enriching skills and developing capacities in the field of mental health care.

Approximately 50 trainees attended the training session, which was part of the Suwasiah 2 project aimed at improving the psychological conditions of female inmates in rehabilitation and correctional centers through comprehensive psychological and social support and rehabilitation. This training was organized in coordination with the General Administration of Rehabilitation and Correctional Centers, reflecting strong collaboration among relevant parties to enhance the mental care for inmates.

The meeting was attended by Akram Abu Fanous, the Major of Jenin Rehabilitation and Correctional Centers, and from the Torture Victims Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Manar Arrar, the Clinical Psychologist and Director of the Psychological Treatment Department. The speakers shared their expertise and presented modern tools and methodologies in the field of mental health to develop the skills of the participants and equip them to provide the best possible care for inmates.

This training represents an important step towards enhancing the focus on mental health in rehabilitation and correctional centers and improving the conditions of inmates. It contributes to raising awareness among new staff members about the concept of mental health and its importance in their work, as well as training them on psychological diagnostic mechanisms and effective methods to protect the health of inmates.
