On Thursday, August 31, 2023, TRC held an open day for children in Um
Al-Tut/Jenin Governorate. The activity took place at Al-Baraem Kindergarten.
This event is part of the project "Improving Child Protection and
Providing Mental Health Services and Psychosocial Support to Families and
Children with and without Disabilities Affected by Conflict-related Violence in
the West Bank and East Jerusalem." The project is funded by the United
Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied
Palestinian territories (OCHA/oPt HF) in partnership with the Dutch
organization War Child Holland and the YMCA-East Jerusalem.
The activity aimed to provide a safe and supportive environment for
children affected by the harassment, raids, and ongoing settler attacks in the
area. It aimed to empower children to express their feelings, build positive
relationships, develop coping mechanisms to overcome challenges and difficult
situations, and provide psychological relief through recreational activities.
The activities included a variety of recreational activities aimed at
promoting healing, resilience, and the psychological and social wellbeing of
the participating children. These activities included interactive workshops,
expressive arts, recreational games, and group discussions.
Approximately 20 children of both genders participated in the open day
activities. The event was conducted by TRC’s Psychologists Sahar Mohammad and
Iman Mubaslat, in coordination with Mrs. Alaa Zakarneh, Principal of Al-Baraem
Kindergarten.
