TRC Organizes a Workshop on
the Psychological Impact of Torture and Dealing with Victims
On 30 of July 2023. TRC organized a workshop entitled "The Psychological Impact of
Torture and Best Practices for Dealing with Victims" as part of the
European Union project. The workshop was attended by approximately 20
participants, including students from Birzeit University in the West Bank.
The workshop focused on
several key topics, including clarifying the concept of torture and
distinguishing it from mistreatment and violence. Discussions were held on the
perpetrators of torture, as well as the psychological and physical forms of
torture. The workshop also addressed the psychological effects resulting from
various types of torture and their serious impact on victims.
The workshop was facilitated
by Mr. Wissam Sahwil, the Director of Data Analysis Unit at the center. Mr.
Sahwil provided an overview of methodologies and approaches used in intervening
and dealing with torture victims, emphasizing the importance of providing
appropriate psychological support and therapy to victims. Additionally, he highlighted
the significance of providing legal assistance, supporting legal proceedings,
and promoting the rights of victims.
The workshop aimed to increase
awareness of the psychological impact of torture and enhance capacities for
dealing with torture victims. It sought to provide training and essential
resources to the participants. The organization of this workshop reflects the
center's commitment to providing comprehensive care and support to victims, as
well as working towards justice and human rights promotion.
