The Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for the victims of Torture organized an
open day for children in the As-Sawiya area of Nablus on Sunday, August 6,
2023. This event is part of the project "Improving Child Protection and
Providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Families and Children with
and without Disabilities Affected by Conflict-Related Violence in the West Bank
and East Jerusalem." The project is funded by the United Nations Office
for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs/Occupied Palestinian Territory
(OCHA/oPtHF) in partnership with War Child Netherlands and the Young Men's
Christian Association - Jerusalem (YMCA). The activities were conducted by
psychological specialists Nur Hamayel and Rasha Fakhida from TRC. Approximately
36 children of both genders participated in the open day.
The activity aims to provide a
safe and supportive environment for children affected by violence, enabling
them to express their emotions, build positive relationships, and develop
coping mechanisms to overcome challenges and difficult situations.
The event included a variety of
recreational activities designed to promote healing, resilience, and
psychosocial well-being among the participating children. Interactive
workshops, art therapy, recreational games, and group discussions.
