The
Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture organized a workshop
as part of the project "Strengthening and Enhancing Rehabilitation,
Prevention of Torture, and Accountability in Palestine," funded by the
European Union in Hebron on May 3, 2023, specifically at Palestine Polytechnic
University, under the title "The Psychological Impact of Torture and Best
Approaches to Deal with Torture Cases."
More
than 29 psychology students participated in the workshop, which focused on
defining the concept of torture according to the Convention against Torture,
its types, distinguishing it from violence and harsh treatment, as well as the
destructive consequences and psychological effects it leaves on the individual
and society. The workshop was delivered by clinical psychologist at the
Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture, Alaa Da'na, who
explained the psychological impact of torture on the individual and the best
means and methods for prevention and dealing with torture cases.
Participants expressed their encouragement for
such specialized workshops that shed light on these important topics, which
constituted an additional link in raising awareness and unifying their vision
for the importance of respecting human rights and upholding their preservation.
