On Tuesday, July 11, 2023,
the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture held an open day
for children and their families in the village of Al-Lubban Al-Sharqiya as part
of the project "Improving Child Protection and Providing Psychological
Health Services and Social Psychological Support for Families and Children
Affected by Conflict-Related Violence in the Northern West Bank and East
Jerusalem." The project is funded by the United Nations Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs/Occupied Palestinian Territories (OCHA oPt
HF) in partnership with War Child Holland and the YMCA-East Jerusalem.
The event was organized by psychologist Rasha Fakhaida and psychologist Noor Hamaeil from the
Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture, with the
participation of more than 30 children and 10 of their mothers. Oxfam,
represented by colleague Bayan Shalalfa, also participated in the event,
providing the families with information about legal accountability and
complaint mechanisms. Diana Dragma, a member of the Al-Lubban Al-Sharqiya
Council, helped coordinate the event.
The aim of these activities
is to enhance the psychological and social well-being of children and improve
their ability to cope with daily challenges and negative emotions, while
providing a safe and supportive environment for children and their families to
express themselves and improve their mental and social health. The open day
included recreational activities and supportive activities for the
psychological and social health of children, including play therapy and various
games.
